Nayara Energy Fuel Price Hike: Petrol ₹5, Diesel ₹3 From October 3
Nayara Energy has increased petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre with immediate effect from October 3, 2026. The Nayara Energy fuel price hike comes as higher international crude oil and refined-product costs put pressure on fuel retailers' margins.
The latest increase applies across Nayara Energy's 7,108 petrol pumps in India. As the country's largest private fuel retailer, Nayara's decision could widen the price difference between its outlets and state-owned fuel stations, which have largely kept retail prices unchanged. Economic Times
Why Did Nayara Energy Increase Fuel Prices?
The main reason behind the Nayara Energy petrol price hike is the increase in international crude oil and refined petroleum-product prices. Higher input costs have squeezed the margins of fuel retailers, making it increasingly difficult to maintain domestic pump prices at earlier levels.
The pressure on fuel retailers has been substantial. Icra estimated that oil marketing companies were facing negative marketing margins of around ₹8 per litre on petrol and ₹9 per litre on diesel in September. The agency also estimated losses of about ₹530 crore per day across petrol, diesel and LPG. Business Standard
Nayara Had Cut Prices in July
The October increase follows a previous reduction in fuel prices. Nayara Energy had cut petrol prices by ₹5 per litre and diesel prices by ₹3 per litre in July after international crude prices eased and concerns over supply disruptions reduced. Autocar India
The company had earlier raised petrol and diesel prices by the same ₹5 and ₹3 amounts in March. The latest October revision therefore brings another round of price increases after the relief provided to consumers during the summer. Reuters
What Does the Petrol Price Hike Mean for Consumers?
For motorists using Nayara fuel stations, the immediate impact is higher fuel expenditure. A customer purchasing 40 litres of petrol would pay ₹200 more than before the latest ₹5-per-litre increase, assuming the full increase applies to the local retail price. Economic Times
The ₹3 per litre diesel price increase could have a wider economic effect because diesel is heavily used in commercial transportation and logistics. If higher diesel costs persist, transport operators could face increased operating expenses, which may eventually affect freight costs and business margins.
Private vs State-Owned Fuel Prices
Nayara's latest decision also highlights the growing difference between private and state-owned fuel retailers. Indian Oil, BPCL and HPCL have largely maintained their retail prices despite pressure from international energy markets, while Nayara has chosen to pass part of the higher costs on to consumers.
Jio-bp, another major private fuel retailer, had not revised its petrol and diesel prices in line with Nayara's October 3 increase. This means consumers may see different prices depending on which company's fuel station they use. Moneycontrol

Will Other Fuel Companies Increase Prices?
Nayara's decision does not automatically mean that Indian Oil, BPCL, HPCL or other private companies will immediately increase prices. Their decisions will depend on international crude prices, refined-product costs, marketing margins, competition and government policy.
The latest development comes after the government also asked private fuel retailers to stop restricting petrol and diesel sales. Reuters reported that companies including Nayara and Reliance had faced financial pressure from selling fuel at prices below market-linked costs.
