The global private $1 Billion "Unicorn Club" is expanding rapidly, but the capital density is shifting directly into heavy industrial tech and sovereign defense layers. According to Crunchbase data, eleven companies raised billion-dollar-plus rounds in the first half of 2026, worth $109 billion combined, with global venture funding hitting a record $510 billion . The defining characteristic of this funding surge is its extraordinary concentration at the top, with OpenAI and Anthropic together accounting for $217 billion—43% of all H1 startup capital . Anthropic's $65 billion Q2 raise alone represented close to a third of global venture funding for the period .
Following Helsing's stunning $1.8 billion raise at an $18 billion valuation—quadrupling its valuation from just months earlier—defense tech infrastructure has firmly established itself alongside foundational AI labs as the most highly valued sector on the global leaderboard . Helsing joins the ranks of Anduril Industries ($61B valuation) to prove that modern unicorns are no longer simple e-commerce or entertainment apps . Helsing, which reached unicorn status in January 2025 at approximately $5.4 billion, has since become Europe's most valuable private AI defense company, with projected 2026 revenue exceeding €1.4 billion ($1.55 billion), up from nearly €400 million in 2025 . Anduril Industries, valued at $61 billion, has emerged as a competitor to traditional defense primes, delivering software-defined hardware and autonomous systems .
As private valuations surge, the tech exit pipeline is beginning to open up. Major physical ecosystem contract manufacturers like Zetwerk have officially secured SEBI approval for their upcoming public listings, showing that the ultimate goal for top-tier unicorns in late 2026 is moving into deep, heavy public market infrastructure . Exits have returned in force, producing the strongest liquidity market since the 2021 boom. SpaceX went public at a $1.77 trillion valuation, raising $75 billion in the largest venture-backed IPO ever . Twenty-four companies were acquired at prices at or above $1 billion in Q2, totaling $113 billion—the highest quarter on record—while 32 companies went public above $1 billion . The era of consumer internet unicorns is fading. The era of defense tech, sovereign AI, and industrial infrastructure—funded at scale and heading for public markets—is already here .
