Meta’s Muse passed 10.2 million US downloads in 40 days, outpacing ChatGPT’s early pace. Sensor Tower warns the gains may be ad-driven.
Meta’s personal AI agent, Muse, has passed 10.2 million downloads in the United States within 40 days of its early-September launch, according to Sensor Tower estimates. The market researcher says only a handful of apps since October 2015 have reached 10 million that quickly, and it names Threads as one of them. For comparison, ChatGPT recorded about 3.7 million US downloads in its first 40 days.

Usage is climbing as well. Sensor Tower puts Muse at about 2.5 million US daily active users, a level it first reached on October 16. Daily users rose 15 percent week over week between October 11 and 17. Worldwide, the firm estimates 10.9 million downloads. Those numbers describe the first six weeks, so they show early momentum rather than settled habits .Sources: PPC Land, “Meta’s Muse gains 10 million US downloads in 40 days, Sensor Tower finds”:

Meta positions Muse as more than a chatbot. It can send emails, book travel, fill out forms and make purchases, and it can keep working after the app is closed. It pauses to ask for approval when a task needs it, and it can use a browser, a file system and a terminal. At launch it was available only in the US, on iOS, Android, the web and WhatsApp. Most users are on a free tier, with paid plans at $20 and $100 a month.

The numbers need context. Sensor Tower says Muse may be seeing outsized gains because of Meta’s advertising push, and it cautions that its estimates “should be used for directional trend analysis.” The ChatGPT comparison also has limits. ChatGPT took 123 days to reach 10 million US downloads, but it launched into a market that had no established category of AI assistant, and Muse is entering one that already has several well-known players.Sources: PPC Land, “Meta’s Muse gains 10 million US downloads in 40 days, Sensor Tower finds”:
Trust is the harder part of the pitch. Muse runs on a cloud virtual machine called Muse Secure VM, and a separate system called Sentinel controls what it can send outside. WIRED reported that Meta acknowledges the virtual machine is not technically inaccessible to Meta, although company policy bars such access. A more locked-down Confidential VM is planned later this year. For an agent that handles email and payments, that gap between policy and technical design is the detail users will weigh most.Sources: TechRepublic, citing WIRED:
