Natural-Language Builder "Emergent" & Sovereign AI Lead the Leaderboard
The private $1 Billion "Unicorn Club" continues to reward platforms that enable non-technical users to generate enterprise-grade software and localized AI tools. Within weeks of each other, two Indian AI startups—Emergent and Sarvam AI—have crossed the billion-dollar valuation threshold, signaling that the country is finally entering the global AI race in earnest.

Emergent ($1.5B+ Valuation)

Emergent joined the Unicorn Board after a $130 million Series C round led by Creaegis, with Claypond Capital and Sentinel Global joining as co-lead investors, and participation from Khosla Ventures, SoftBank Vision Fund 2, Lightspeed, and Y Combinator. The round quintupled Emergent's valuation to $1.5 billion in just four months, making it a unicorn roughly a year after its public launch.

The platform enables non-technical founders and business owners to build full-stack, production-ready web and mobile applications purely through conversational prompts—a process known as "vibe coding". Autonomous AI agents write the code, then handle hosting, testing, and deployment end-to-end. Approximately 70% of its users have no prior coding experience.

More than 12 million applications have been built on Emergent in the last year, with hundreds of thousands deployed. The company has surpassed 200,000 paying customers and reached a $120 million annualised revenue run-rate. Small businesses account for roughly half of its core commercial user base, with entrepreneurs contributing about 40%. Users have built CRMs, inventory systems, marketplaces, and internal tools—with an Ohio roofer replacing five separate tools with one integrated system.

Sarvam AI ($275M Total Raised)

Sarvam AI solidified its unicorn ranking following a $234 million Series B expansion led by HCL Technologies at a $1.5 billion post-money valuation in June 2026. The funding marks one of the largest strategic investments by an Indian technology major in a domestic AI venture. Sarvam is aiming to raise a total of $300 million for its Series B round. Total funding raised across three rounds now stands at $275 million.

The Bengaluru-based startup is among a handful of companies attempting to build a full-stack AI business, spanning model development, inference infrastructure, and enterprise applications. The company has developed two indigenous large language models—Sarvam-30B and Sarvam-105B—designed for Indian languages and use cases. Its products are being deployed across banking, insurance, government services, and defense.

The investment reflects a broader push by countries and companies to develop sovereign AI capabilities amid growing concerns over access to advanced models and computing infrastructure. The debate over AI sovereignty gained fresh urgency after the U.S. government ordered Anthropic to suspend access to its latest models by foreign nationals. With the fresh investment, Sarvam plans to fund research into next-generation AI models focused on agentic, coding, and cybersecurity applications.

The Bottom Line

Emergent's $1.5 billion valuation—five times its valuation from just four months ago—signals that investors are betting heavily on the "vibe coding" category as a transformative force for SMBs globally. Sarvam AI's $1.5 billion valuation and $234 million Series B round confirm that sovereign AI infrastructure—built for localized languages and enterprise data security—is now commanding top-tier private valuations. Together, they represent India's first two AI unicorns within a month, proving that the country is finally entering the AI race as a builder of frontier technology rather than just a consumer. The era of consumer app unicorns is fading. The era of natural-language software creation and sovereign AI infrastructure is already here.
