Venture and corporate capital are pouring into space robotics and physical infrastructure. On July 21, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket successfully launched Northrop Grumman's Mission Robotic Vehicle (MRV) from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida. The spacecraft is equipped with two 10-foot dexterous robotic arms, developed by the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory and funded by DARPA, marking the nation's first multi-mission robotic in-space servicer. The mission, known as MRV-MEP, is operated by SpaceLogistics, a subsidiary of Northrop Grumman.
The MRV is designed to perform orbital repairs, refuel satellites, and extend mission lifespans in geostationary orbit. Using its robotic arms, the vehicle will attach Mission Extension Pods (MEPs) to client satellites, providing propulsion units that can extend operational lives by up to eight years. The spacecraft also carries a Passive Refueling Module, the first refuelling interface standard approved by the U.S. Space Force, enabling the robotic vehicle itself to be refuelled in space for longer-term operations. Australian satellite operator Optus has reserved one of the pods, while Intelsat will use the remaining two. After installing all three pods, the MRV will remain in orbit to support future servicing missions.
Tech Mahindra Launches Engineering Experience Centre
Meanwhile, global IT services powerhouse Tech Mahindra launched its Engineering Experience Centre at Hyderabad on July 28, alongside the unveiling of its engineering proposition, 'Accelerating Breakthroughs'. The initiative focuses on helping organizations move faster from concept to commercialization, amid increasing product complexity, geopolitical challenges, and rapidly shrinking innovation cycles. The experience centre brings together engineering innovation, AI-infused product realization capabilities, and a co-creation environment to empower enterprises navigate rising complexity and accelerate breakthrough outcomes.

Designed as a working engineering environment, the facility allows clients, partners, industry stakeholders, and Tech Mahindra experts to jointly explore, validate, and scale breakthrough ideas. Through product engineering development and workflows, teardown analysis, validation processes, testing environments, supply chain considerations, and AI-enabled engineering capabilities, visitors can experience how innovation is translated into measurable business outcomes. Rohit Madhok, Global Head of Engineering Services at Tech Mahindra, said: "Engineering has always been about solving constraints. With the launch of our Engineering Experience Centre and our proposition, 'Accelerating Breakthroughs', we aim to centre a living engineering environment where ideas are developed, stress-tested, disassembled, reimagined, validated, and brought closer to market readiness".

July 2026 confirms that venture and corporate capital are betting heavily on in-orbit servicing infrastructure and hardware acceleration platforms. The era of static, single-use satellites is ending. The era of robotic in-orbit servicing, refuellable spacecraft, and accelerated hardware commercialization is already here.
